Mad Quickies
Mad Quickies: Window Sandwiches, Math Music, Surreal Letterforms, a Kinetic Tie Machine and More!
Holla, you guys! We’re one day into the work week and it’s not so bad after all, is it. Here, have a cookie and a soothing hot beverage and have some Quickies, too. You’ll be right as rain before you know it.
- Artist Dustin Yellin has encased three-dimensional figurative collages in multiple layers of glass—a serires he calls Psychogeographies— for a commissioned installation for the New York City Ballet. Video included.
- The Velveteen Rabbit is one of my favorite books ever. Author Margery Williams wrote in 1922: “Real isn’t how you are made. It’s a thing that happens to you.” That central idea of the book is now more relevant than ever. This exquisite version is reimagined with uncommon tenderness by the illustrator Komako Sakai and is deeply beautiful.
- This Guy Composed an Entire Album Using Playing Cards. Talk about Math Rock! The guy is Ben Chasny. The compositional tool he uses is called Hexadic system. His band is called the Six Organs of Admittance and the album is called of course, Hexadic.
- Instagram Talent Find: David Barnes aka thebeewithwheels who just did the illustrations for Of Montreal’s new album Aureate Gloom. {via Courtney C.}
- No, you’re not tripping [or are you?] – these are just art history masterpieces transformed into surreal typefaces. [The David is NSFW.]
- Bonus that was inspired by Smashley’s AWESOME post: These are 19 Insane Things That Were Actually Acceptable In The 60s.
