Mad Quickies: Scalzi Wins, Old NYC, Serious Comics, Felty Goodness, Baby Bees and More!
Hey- what happened to Monday? I opened my eyes and it was today and, welp, we may never know. Here’s hoping you had a lovely weekend and, if you reside in the U.S., a wonderful long weekend. [Shout-out to all my people at Balticon!] Here’s what…
- Well, lookee here, The incomparable John Scalzi was in the New York times because he freakin’ signed a $3.4 million deal for 13 books.
- Be prepared to lose the next few hours. The New York Public Library brings you: Old NYC, mapping historical photos. {via Brian G.}
- Comics legend Scott McCloud’s newest work is the story of a struggling sculptor who makes a deal with Death. The book entitled The Sculptor is receiving huge accolades.
- Illustrator, Vero Navarro is a master of the colored-pencil medium. Check out Hipster Bones.
- Sven Sauer is a digital artist who specializes in matte paintings. He’s also one of the artists who paints the Game of Thrones landscapes. This is so cool!
- Ukrainian crafter Hanna Dovahan is a genius at creating adorable felt pieces. Her sweet Avocado Love wool sculpture is completely awesome.
- Photographer Anand Varma filmed a bee’s first 21 days of life. Video included below.
- In sad news, Nobel Prize-winning mathematician John Nash and his wife, Alicia died in a car crash. His struggle with schizophrenia was the subject of “A Beautiful Mind.” The link is a very informative obituary.
- Laura Stone’s recap Game of Thrones 5.7 – The Gift is indeed just that.
