Mad Quickies
Mad Quickies: Face Plants, Mental Illness Dualities, Bodies in Space, Pumpkin Carving with LASERS and much more!
You guys, where the heck have I been? A good guess would be that I’m waking from a Halloween candy-induced sugar haze. Be that as it may, I have collected a bunch of sweet treats for you and no tricks, I swear. Have at it!
- A wee bit after the fact, but still fabulous. One woman, 31 days of Halloween makeup. Truly masterful work by Amanda Chapman. {via Elizabeth H.}
- Awesome Book Alert: “Science…For Her!” by Megan Amram. {via Smashley}.
- The wire was lit up today with notes about the passing of Car Talk‘s Tom Magliozzi. Like many others, I listened to him and his brother Ray for years and loved their show and their warmth and their smart, kooky humor. Here’s a great bit of their brilliance: “At the last minute, I realized that I’m in a coins-only lane.”
- Anna Kreider’s kickstarter The Ruined Empire: an anime-inspired RPG campaign sourcebook is almost at the end of its allocated time. However, we wanted you to know about her gorgeous work, as well as her blog, “Go Make Me a Sandwich, a (mostly) humorous look at how not to sell games to women”. {via Ryan C.}
- The Secret Dual Lives of People Living With Mental Illness is about Liz Obert, her own struggle with bipolar II disorder and her fascinating and poignant photo series Dualities. {via Surly Amy}
- “The airlock opens and you’re sucked into outer space.” Bodies in Space by Nathan Hoste is a nsfw-ish examination of what happens next. But, like, with beautifully executed nude-ish illustrations. And here’s Phil Plait’s take on this. {via Emmett}
- Overgrowth is a collaboration between photographer Parker Fitzgerald and floral designer Riley Messina. {via Kim R.}
