Mad Quickies
Mad Quickies: Cosmic Eggs, Eerie Underwater Art, Free Space Sounds, Gluten-Free Art and More!
Hello hello hello! Spring has finally started to live up to its name in my corner of the planet and I’m feeling darn energetic. I’ve decided to channel my cabin fever into a list of vernal fabulosity, which is so much more fun than spring cleaning. To wit…
- Crafty Allison Murray of Dream a Little Bigger can show you how to make colorful galaxy Easter eggs. {via Anne S.}
- Sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor mixes art and science in his eerie and compelling sculptural underwater installations. You can buy the book. {via Surly Amy}
- Chris Rock still gets harassed for the crime of “Driving While Black.” This is what his selfie project can teach us about racist policing.
- Alex White sez I’m a Magical Writer (and You’re Not). {via Emily F.}
- This happened and it’s high time it has! All gluten products have been removed from works of art at the Gluten Free Museum. {via Melanie M.}
- NASA is really crushing it with all the cool free things and the incredible news these days. Space is the place indeed. And now this: NASA Posts a Huge Library of Space Sounds, And You’re Free To Use Them. {via Beth V.}
- Artist Barak Hardley painted 62 awesome egg characters for Easter.
- Last night I finally watched “Under the Skin” and loved it. Today I found this gem: Neuroscience of “Under the Skin” by R. Douglas Fields, Chief of the Nervous System Development and Plasticity Section at the National Institutes of Health. If you’ve seen the movie, you might be interested in the review by Matt Zoller Seitz. Just FYI, all three links are spoiler-y.
- Tragically, “Little Foot” fell down a narrow shaft in the Sterkfontein Caves. This discovery by paleoanthropologist Ronald Clarke means that our ancestor Lucy was not alone.
