Mad Art Cast and The Orbital Mechanics of Starkiller Base

Welcome to the latest episode of Mad Art Cast!

We have a special guest!

Joining us this week is Mindy Townsend who is a lawyer who has now decided to get a physics degree! Her interest? Space! That not enough to convince you that she is fabulous? Well in her free time Mindy thought it would be fun to find all of the math involved in figuring out if the orbital mechanics of StarKiller Base (from the latest Star Wars film) and the stars it pulls its energy from would actually work in real life. Yeah, thats what she does for FUN! And that is why we love her!

So how do the physics actually line up? Would a star spin wildly out of its orbit or would the Starkiller base get pulled into the star? All of this information is extremely important for anyone who has been to the dark side or planning on going there again in fact, we have some very valuable information for General Leai should she decide to listen to this episode!

This show will have slight Star Wars spoilers but if you haven’t seen that movie by now, we really really can’t help you at this point anyway.

We start this episode off with a fun story about a robot that deals with telemarketers so you do have to and after that, there is a lot of Star Wars talk.

Show notes:
