Thanks for the Nicolas Collins link! I first heard Tobabo Fonio in the early 1990s when I picked up his CD “It was a Dark and Stormy Night”. I would have loved to have seen a video of his performance back then.
It’s amazing how things like this re-emerge and get shared, as disk space and bandwidth become more and more available!
To those who appreciated the Collins video, I would recommend his CD “It was a Dark and Stormy Night”. The other two works on there are “Broken Light”, a piece for string quartet and hot-wired CD player (the latter is made to skip, in effect turning it into a semi-random sample looper), and the title track, which is an odd bit of music that is almost closer to being a theater performance, mixing music with quotes from fiction, nonfiction, and the classic campfire joke.
