Greetings from the Resistance!
This week I found a video on twitter via Parker Molloy. It is expertly done in every way: script, illustration and voice. Its message is powerful and it is definitely something to share.
3 Truths About Trumpism
The film was written by Ananya Roy and illustrated by Mia Greenwald from RogueMark Studios, the company that produced the film.
Here’s their message that accompanies the film:
Truth is out of fashion. Truth is past its expiration date. The Oxford Dictionaries declared post-truth to be the 2016 Word of the Year. Here’s their official definition: an adjective defined as ‘relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief’. It is no coincidence that Time magazine named Donald Trump the 2016 Person of the Year.
Ananya Roy is the mind behind this message and clearly a force of nature.
An expert on international development and global urbanism, Ananya Roy is an esteemed figure in academia. She is Professor of Urban Planning and Social Welfare and inaugural Director of The Institute on Inequality and Democracy at UCLA Luskin. She holds The Meyer and Renee Luskin Chair in Inequality and Democracy. Follow her on twitter.
The Institute on Inequality and Democracy‘s mission reads: “The Institute on Inequality and Democracy advances radical democracy in an unequal world through research, critical thought, and alliances with social movements and racial justice activism. We analyze and transform the divides and dispossessions of our times, in the university and in our cities, across global South and global North.” You can follow the Institute on twitter.
Mia Greenwald is the video’s illustrator and having checked out her work, I am totally a fan. She is also a printmaker and graphic designer based on Oakland. She graduated from Tufts University with a B.A. in International Literary and Visual Studies and is a member of the RogueMark Studios team. Follow her on twitter and instagram.
