Mad Quickies

Mad Quickies 12.16

Happy Friday, old friends and new peeps! It’s been a crazy-great week here at the Lab, what with Ryan and the rest of the Mad Writers breaking the mothership’s network with their awesomeness. It’s also a week that’s culminated in the passing of a hero of ours. So, if you’ll excuse us now, we’re going to go persuade Anne to make us a round of Derringers, make cupcakes with Maggie’s Makerbot Maddie, and then kick back and read some old Christopher Hitchens essays. In the meantime, please enjoy this grab bag of Quickies. Cheers!

A font for dyslexics, cats and code, much more… and one for Mr. Hitchens.

We mourn the passing of Christopher Hitchens and we are grateful for the mark he left on our world. We think you’ll appreciate In Memoriam: Christopher Hitchens, 1949–2011 by his longtime friend, Graydon Carter. {thanks to Maki}

In tribute, we offer you George Hrab performing God Is Not Great from the album Trebuchet.

Lyrics

god is not great, not from where I stand
this 21st century man can, tend to get
I rate, on a scale from one to one
less than some, it’s no fun, pounding my fists at the gate

god is not great, I’ll plainly state, it’s not too late, maybe it is

god’s way too mean, for all the power he’s got
apparently it’s a lot I find it all obscene
quite enough of this bad play,
yet they stay, day after day, less logic more latrine

god’s way too mean, I’ll calmly scream, and cause a scene

and in a way, it’s a shame, that some folks would remain
in a box, and ignore, what they say he made us for

god’s no ‘of course’, he’s had enough of a chance
a new song needs a new dance, I’ll scream until I’m hoarse
race is lost but jockeys whip, though their grip
starts to slip, never questioning the source

god’s no of course, Christian or Norse, Sauron or Force,
to me it’s all the same

god is not great.

Like light’s wave-particle duality, Reddit has an Awesome-Horrible duality.
Awesome traffic, horrible aftermath of burning servers. hehe

As I pointed out to a friend on facebook, the correlation-causation article gets cause and effect reversed in fig. 3 and 4. The graphs clearly show that rising house prices caused the Ava-boom and that the crappy Night M. Shyamalan movies are to blame for the decline of the newspaper industry, not the other way round.

Just to let you know, we harrassed Ryan at Drinking Skeptically last night for his part in bringing down the Skepchick Mothership. 🙂
