TL/DR version: Skepchick Auction here for Furiosa belt crest to fund Convergence programming. Ends Sunday at 9:00pm ET
For those of you that haven’t seen Mad Max: Fury Road yet, I am saddened by your impoverished existence. It is likely the finest 90 minutes of vehicle-base combat you will ever see. There is about half an our of other kinds of combat, establishing shots, and something resembling dialogue, as well. All of it is quite good.
A standout feature of the film is the skillful treatment of women in its story. That is to say, they are treated, almost entirely, as people and are part of the story. They also get to do stuff other than suffer and be beautiful. It’s revolutionary
In celebration of the second most badass lady in the film, Imperator Furiosa, I made her belt.
Granted, her belt is a symbol of all that is horrible and wrong with the world, but it’s also iconic and straight up badass.
I made a whole belt, and it turned out really well. I’ll include a little gallery of the process below. A nice side benefit is that I now have a mold for the buckle, a mold that I have used to craft a cold-cast aluminum (shiny resin) version which is available now on ebay.
The proceeds all go to support our activities at Convergence Con. These include things like panels, workshops, science activities for kids and grown up kids. So if you feel like paying too much for it, it’s going to the cause of teaching kids about bugs. Do it. Go now, buy thing.
