Microscopic Science Art

Did you know there’s such a thing as scientific glassblowing? Apparently a lot of those swirly glass tubes and bendy looking beakers can’t be made en masse — they need to be custom-built by individual artisans. Glassblower Kiva Ford leads an amazing double-life as both scientific beaker-maker and free-spirited artisan.

Ashley Hamer

Ashley Hamer (aka Smashley) is a saxophonist and writer living in Chicago, where she performs regularly with the funk band FuzZz and jazz ensemble Big Band Boom. She also does standup comedy, sort of, sometimes. Her tenor saxophone's name is Ladybird.
