Chronic over-commitment is a condition that I, and many artistic people I know, suffer from. To those that do not suffer from it, it appears to be a simple problem to solve. One just has to stop agreeing to do so many things.
This condition is, as so many are, more complicated. It isn’t just about agreeing to do stuff, it’s about wanting to do things because they’re fun and interesting, and wanting to help people because you care about them, and not being willing to see things fail just for lack of time, and fundamentally failing to recognize how much time is needed to recover from doing things.
It’s that last one that has plagued me and kept me from posting. I deeply underestimated the cognitive load from all of the things going on in my life. As a result, while I still had free time, that time was not, and could not be, productive time. I was full. Overfull.
All this is to say, I’m sorry for not posting more, and also I made a dragon.
It’s for a production of Paperbag Princess the Musical. I’m really proud of him, and now, a couple weeks after finishing him, I have the brain space to write words again.
