The Mad Art Lab Secular Christmas Playlist, 2015 Edition

It’s hard to be an atheist at Christmas. God and Jesus are mentioned at every turn, and there are memes everywhere made by snotty Christians asking why atheists celebrate the holiday (answer: because we grew up with it, because it’s as good a time as any to spend time with family and eat lots of food, because you stopped believing in Santa Claus but I bet you still wear Santa hats/get gifts from “Santa”/sing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, and because a person in the Western world almost can’t avoid celebrating Christmas — just ask anyone of a non-Christian faith).

Our annual secular Christmas playlist makes the holidays a little easier to bear for us godless folk by including only the music that doesn’t make us roll our eyes or mumble through uncomfortably religious lyrics. This is the third year of the playlist, and as a result, it has more than 200 tracks! (Remember back when it only had 50? Aww).

Feel free to stream the playlist at home with religious family, as there shouldn’t be anything that’s outwardly offensive to Christians — it’s just that it contains nothing that specifically mentions their religion. Enjoy the music, and happy holidays!

Featured image is one of those ubiquitous pictures the internet is so fond of sharing without credit, and as a result I can’t find the original source. But Phil Plait once posted it without credit, so I feel like that should let me off the hook somehow.
