Support the Freedom of Skepticism

I go to a lot of conventions and the number one complaint I hear from people is that they are too expensive to attend.

This reason is why I often do fundraisers to help people attend events. There is however, one convention out there that understands the difficulty people face when wanting to hear top speakers in Skepticism and wanting to be an active part of the community but not being able to afford it. That event is happening this weekend in Springfield, Missouri and it is called, SkeptiCon.

I want to support the free sharing of information and the spreading of secular and skeptic ideals and so I have thrown my hat into the ring to try to help out a wee little bit myself.

I have made a series of limited edition Skepticon 5 logo necklaces. I donated the first batch of them to the event to give away as promotional prizes. The second batch is in the photo below and I will be selling those at the event itself this weekend.

I will be donating 50% of the proceeds from the necklaces to the event management so that they can continue providing educational and free events.

Did I mention it is fun too? Last year skeptics drained almost all the kegs at the local pub while new and old skeptics stayed up late drinking, talking and laughing. It’s such a great group of people that attend this event that when the talks are over people spill out into the streets and spend hours together after, debating, chatting and just enjoying each-other’s company. I can attest that it was a really wonderful time the last few years, and I am looking forward to seeing old and new friends this weekend.

Necklaces that I have made to help support Skepticon 5.

If you are attending the event please show your support by buying and wearing a necklace and if you can get there, GO to the event. It’s free!

More info and a list of speakers at this year’s Skepticon can be found here: http://www.skepticon.org/

Hope to see you this weekend!

  1. Dear Amy,

I love and respect you. Wait. Not in that way. But not that you’re not worthy of love and respect in that way, I just… we’re not… I mean…

Crap now it’s all weird and awkward.

    Well done Ryan, Well done.

    Love (or the semi-professional analogue),

    Ryan

  2. I love this comment section.

(Sorry, I couldn’t figure out how to make that awkward.)
