Make Each Other Brave

Woot Suit Riot released their first live album yesterday. Go listen to it. The album speaks for itself, the rest of what I have to say is for people without headphones handy.

They play the nerd rock/folk in the same broad genre as Jonathan Coulton, Molly Lewis, Marian Call, and Paul and Storm. That is, they write and play clever songs about the nerd experience. Some of it is funny and extremely dorky, some of it is earnest and melancholy. All of it is laced with the sort of delightful wordplay and turns of phrase that is extremely quotable, and melodies that refuse to exit your brain (I’ve been humming “Do What The Fuck Makes you Happy” all day”).

For the romantics, there’s Uncontitional and Not Mine

If you’re looking for a soundtrack to your feminist rage, try Lady Killer and Hermione.

Dedicated Mad Art Lab fans might find that SCIENCE and Art Harder speak to them.

If you need a little more melancholy in your life, Last Summer and the moving lullaby, Grow Up and Be Good People will serve you well.

Seriously, there isn’t a track on this that I want to skip and there are way too many that give me deep feels.

Also, congratulations Jim. He’s one of the Woot Suit duo and we’re proud to also call him one of ours here at MAL

Somewhat less professionally, he is a costumer, author, blacksmith, juggler, gamer, serial enthusiast, and supporter of the Oxford comma. He can be found on twitter and instagram @studentofwhim.
