Mad Quickies

Mad Quickies: Minecraft Beetlejuice Rollercoaster, Sculpture Gets A Parking Ticket, Scorched Earth Art and More!

Listen: We are having a hell of a storm in the New York Metro area right now. I got stranded in a bodega waiting out the hail that was falling. Then, once the hail stopped I traipsed my butt the last 3 blocks to my apartment. I got soaked and it was great. I love being out during a storm. But I also love putting together a lovely bunch of Quickies for you, gang. Shall we?

Let’s begin with some truly amazing Minecraft stuff. Here’s a Beetlejuice-inspired rollercoaster, built in Minecraft. It must have taken AGES to build. I wish I had that kind of time.

Holy wow. This is such a great idea. And beautifully executed – “Fulcrum is a non-stop-motion animation film made before your eyes in the Z-arts Gallery. Using robotics, intricately carved miniatures & mysteriously complex technology; we join a woman on a train journey through northern moors and towns, as she imagines a world transformed.” Seriously, check out the making-of trailer in that link. -Via Laura Stevens

Here’s a really great GoFundMe campaign – “CSC Guitars is doing a youth instrument program. Our goal is to help kids learn about music, & provide free instruments, as well as instruction programs for disadvantaged, disabled, & at risk youth across the country.” -Via Amy

Artist Hannelie Coetzee collaborated with scientist Sally Archibald to create this nearly-unbelievable, controlled burn landscape art. -Via Donna

Our Fearless Leader, Surly Amy, was interviewed by Secular Women about her art!

Okay this has to be joke – Artist Erwin Wurm’s kooky, stretched-truck installation sculpture somehow got a parking ticket.
