Lab Track: Soul Vaccination

In honor of Katie Hovany’s and my trek into the underbelly of the Autism One conference last week (which is recounted on Skepchick today) I give you one of my favorite tunes ever in the entire world. J Marton suggested this a while ago as a skeptical song, and it became apparent that the wall in my brain that divides my musician life from my skeptic life had failed me — why didn’t I think of it myself?!

Before you go on to listen to this very funky tune, just remember: it’s important to get your boosters for all sorts of diseases, including pertussis, tetanus, measles, and honkey pox. Especially the honkey pox.

Soul Vaccination
Tower of Power

Soul vaccination,
All across the nation people been catchin’ honkypox (Honkypox)
When you get the notion,
Tower’s got the potion – you might look in to set yourself in motion.

I’m talkin’ ’bout (Soul vaccination)
Ah-hah, Ah-hah (Soul vaccination)
(Soul vaccination)
Everybody get in line (Soul vaccination)

Soul vaccination fo’ mo’ better health,
Part of our soul protection plan (Vaccinate)
Get ready for the injection to cut down on the infection,
‘Cause soon we’ve got soul perfection.

I’m talkin’ ’bout (Soul vaccination)
Ah-hah, Ah-hah (Soul vaccination)
(Soul vaccination)
Everybody stand in line (Soul vaccination)

Soul vaccination, roll up your sleeve,
Cause if you ain’t buggin’ you might still got the
disease (Got the bug)
While responding to the treatment, feel the beat down to
your feet,
and release what it take to make you move your leg.

I’m talkin’ ’bout (Soul vaccination)
Ah-hah, Ah-hah (Soul vaccination)
(Soul vaccination)
Everybody get in line (Soul vaccination)

Hah, ah,
Hey, ey,
I’m talkin’ ’bout soul,
So-o-o-o-oul,
Soul vaccination,
All across the nation,
It’s the master plan,
All over the land,
Ah-hah-yeah,
Soul vaccination, yeah,
Everybody get in line,
You get yours,
I got mine,
Hey, oh, soul!

  1. @DrMRFrancis dug that song up. I just forwarded it to Ashley and Jamie because I thought WTF would have an interest in it.

  2. Honkeypox? Seriously? This is a song about “not catching the white”. I’m not sure if that’s hilarious or awful. They basically equate a poor sense of rhythm with Caucasianism.

This is a stereotype that has plagued our society for generations now and has left us with tens of millions of white men that believe that they are, and should be, terrible dancers.

I say we fight back! Stand up and dance, white boys. (everyone else too, but the rest of you seem to need less encouragement)

  3. What a great track! Please show us more of your “favorite tunes ever in the entire world”. I would surely like to hear more of them.
