Evolution! A game of Unnatural Selection

Dearest Readers, I helped to design a game and kickstarted the heck out of it.

It’s an evolution based tabletop card game where players compete for dominance through changing environments and challenges over evolutionary time. However, in the name of fun, the time for creatures to evolve has been substantially reduced such that the entire game can be played in under an hour. Also, evolution relies somewhat less on chance mutation and selective pressure from the environment, and more on the randomness of card draws and the selective discretion of the player which leads to beautiful creatures like these:

crococamofrog

Black Rhinocetortoise

  1. Cool idea. You might want to avoid too many icons, though; icons add to the player’s vocabulary..

I’d say trading card games in general are a good example of natural selection (as a concept, at least) in action. The entire concept of a meta-game. A deck can either adapt to bannings/rotations (You need to do at least one, to avoid power creep.) or die.
