Most of the costumes I make aren’t exactly workplace appropriate. I put mounds of work into them, but I only get to wear them four or five days a year, at conventions, where I effectively pay for the right to do so.
This seems very silly.
Recently, I’ve started making costumes that I can wear to work without raising eyebrows. They’re business attire and corporate uniform that can fly. It’s great. I can show my dork colours, feel dapper, and apply my skills to something I can wear every day. So far that mostly involves making fancy vests.
The first was a Newt Scamander cosplay. It’s a straight up costume duplication. The vest is so warm and fuzzy that it makes a great winter work outfit and I wear the scarf every day.
My latest attempt is an Iron Man tribute. Another vest, this time with colors and overlapping panels mimicking the structure of the iron man breast plate.
