As we head on into the new year I thought I’d finish this illustration I started by coloring it in and adding some words of wisdom for the coming days. The words of wisdom were originally told to me by my husband, Johnny. I sometimes feel frustrated that I’m not getting enough done, or that I don’t have what it takes to do a really perfect job at something or that I must need something I don’t have to get the job done, and often at just those times, Johnny will remind me that I have all the tools I need. It reminds me that I started my little art business with almost nothing and at the times in my life when I had the fewest things, I made some of the most beautiful things. Like that time I had only two tubes of paint and one paintbrush and how I painted a mural on a bathroom wall with that one brush and my fingers and it came out perfect. Maybe it wasn’t technically perfect, but it was perfect for that moment and it’s become more beautiful as the years pass. You may not have everything you want, but you have what you need.

So try to remember as we move into the year ahead, that when times get tough, or you feel frustrated, or scared or uninspired, know that even in dark times you have all the tools that you need to make a difference, make something perfect in the moment, to make your voice heard, or even to change the world.

Look around, you’ll find what you need.
