The Bacteria Chlamydia and Coloring Pages for #inktober

I just completed a really fun project for my patreon that happened to perfectly coincide with #inktober. People all over the world posted ink drawings with that hashtag during the month and I happily joined in the fun with a bit of sciart. First, I drew some fun time lapse drawings, then I did a coloring poster filled with bacteria that I will be making into a poster size print in the next week or so.

The time-lapse above shows the life cycle of the chlamydia bacteria. I will do a post in a few days that will show the large painting I just completed of chlamydia at the 48 hour mark of infection. That is the stage just before the cell bursts and releases more of the “elementary bodies” that cause the infection. That cute post will have a lot more detailed information about the bacteria and how it acts like a virus- but for now enjoy these simple and fun #inktober drawings!

The second time-lapse drawing I did was of the basic shapes that bacteria come in. Bacteria can be rectangles and even star shaped, but for this project I just wanted to represent the basic and most familiar bacterial shapes that are found most commonly in nature.

On a side note, I have been trying out a bunch of different brands of ink pens for my drawings since I have committed to doing time-lapse videos and coloring pages every month for my Patreon. Which I am loving by the way! My friend Pamela asked about what pen I used -as I was writing this- so I have to give her a shout out! I <3 u Pamela!

Now, I gotta say, by far, my favorite brand has been Copic. They are not cheap if you buy the color sets (yikes) but you can get a really sweet and affordable pack of their black pens at Amazon. Here is a clickable image link to the fantastic set I have fallen in love with:

I seriously don’t think I will use any other black ink pens now that I have tried these. Really solid black lines that flow great. I love them. If you want to get their color sets, it may set you back a bit. I have never tried the color ones, but after using the black ink pens, I can only assume that they rock and I hope that some day I may be able to afford some of my own. Here is the drawing I did with my new favorite pen.

If you do have markers or pencils and you like to color you may enjoy the final #inktober drawings I created. Below is an 11×17 poster print I made of a whole bunch of bacteria and the cell infected with chlamydia from the the time-lapse above.

And here is a Dia de Muertos / Halloween in Space coloring print I made:

Soon I will have the Bacteria coloring page available in my Etsy shop, The Space Skull is already printed but if you are one of my Patrons you can download these, and all my already completed coloring posters AND a new one each month. All for just a pledge of $1. Art about science you can color for less than a latte! Such a deal. 😉
