Random Acts of Art: 2.18

In honor of the quickies posts that the Skepchick network is known for, I have decided to start my very own Random Acts of Art posts.

At least once week, I will post a snapshot of a piece of art here on Mad Art Lab that I have created over the past few days. The piece of art may be a photo, it may be a sculpture, it may be a painting or even a video. I don’t want to limit any of the possibilities. What it will be for sure, is a sneak-peek into the life of an artist who is inspired constantly by the wonder and beauty of science and nature.

My hope is that these random snapshots of art will encourage other people to also make art and to share it with the world or to learn more about science or the bits of nature that inspired the art. And with that thought in mind, I highly encourage you to post links in the comment section to whatever art or craft projects you are working on or messages about what is inspiring you to learn or create so that we can start up a sci-art inspired dialog- a picture book of the mind, if you will. Your contributions and comments will be appreciated. We are on this road of discovery, creativity and innovation together. Let’s enjoy it and share what we find.

The first Random Act of art installment is, “Frogs in Spaaaaaaaaaaaace.” This is a mashup of a few ink on paper sketches I did that I then arranged together in Photoshop. I have had requests for frog designs for my Surly-Ramics work and so I have been looking at a lot of frog photos and then doing sketches. If I use any of theses sketches for my ceramic work I will color the final frogs in bright colors, like orange, bright blue and lime green.

With all the recent talk of asteroids and newly discovered planets in the headlines, I have also been thinking a lot about space. The two ideas have merged into today’s random act of art.
