Playing to my Strengths

I am not a gamer. I never had video games as a kid. My only experience with them growing up was playing with my cousins or my friends and falling off cliffs in Super Mario Bros or running off the track in Mario Kart, and in general failing miserably at whatever goal I was supposed to be achieving. I’ve always appreciated the craft and the art that went into video games like 벳엔드 가입코드, but because I lacked that formative experience, I wrote them off as being something that should’ve been doing since I was in pre-school if I wanted to enjoy them as an adult, and Not For Me.

But, I have a friends group that likes to game, and would pull out things like Mario Kart at parties, and despite being the worst person in the room I had fun. And I started to think that maybe if I could just practice I could get to be not so terrible.

I bought Mario Kart. I’ve played it once. My husband bought Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I’ve played that daily since we got it.

This was, to put it mildly, a bit unexpected and I don’t know who I am anymore.

I have never, NEVER, gotten into a game like this, so I’ve been thinking a lot about what BotW does that makes me so enthusiastic about playing it. I realize that everything I’m about to say is going to be old news to like, everyone who’s made any attempt to play a modern video game, but this is Baby’s First Gaming Experience so please bear with me.

A really big thing is that this game lets me look around without dying every 5 minutes! I want to see what’s behind the trees and under the rocks and get frustrated when a game won’t let me explore. My playing style could best be described as Sound of Music–climb every mountain, ford every stream–and sometimes I’m rewarded for it! Sometimes that means I’m in a part of the map the game didn’t expect me to get to until much later and everything kills me, but I can still run away from things so it’s ok! I’ve killed Link by falling off a wide variety of cliffs and accidently set him on fire a few times, but I’m learning (to not walk in the fire, baby steps. Very small baby steps)!

I’m having fun and I’m happy to finally not be sitting on the sidelines for something that a lot of my friends enjoy.
