Can You Copyright Silence?

Welcome to Mad Art Cast Episode #37!

First of all SO sorry for the delay in episodes! We had recorded an entire long form holiday gift guide episode but sadly the technology demons, likely sent out by Krampus, came in and destroyed one of the tracks. We tried and tried to fix it but to no avail. It will now be known as the lost Mad Art Cast episode of 2015. Terribly sorry and we will try to make it up to you.

How will we make it up to you, you ask? WITH LITERALLY NOTHING! Today we present you with this quick and fun little episode about… well… silence!

On this episode we talk about the recent Soundcloud copyright infringement notice and takedown of a song that was a remix of a song- that was comprised of nothing but silence!

What? How can you remix nothing? How can you copyright silence? Listen in as the gang tackles this rather unusual musical topic based around the infamous composition, 4’33” by John Cage.
