Atlanta Skeptics Star Party 2012*

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Only 45 days to Dragon*Con, which means only 44 days to the Atlanta Skeptics Charity Star Party for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! This year, our featured astronomers are Phil Plait and Skepchick’s own Nicole Gugliucci. And our musical line up has doubled – in addition to George Hrab coming back to play, the fabulous Marian Call will be performing.

I may be a little biased but this is my favorite event of the year. We get to hang out with astronomers, listen to great music, look at the stars AND dress up! If you are coming to Dragon*Con, you DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS. Tickets are already selling really fast and we will sell out so GO GO GO 🙂

More details after the fold!

Atlanta Skeptics Star Party Line Up

We’re doing things a little differently this year. The party will actually be at the STATS Restaurant and Bar rather than at an observatory as we’ve done in the past. We’ve got a huge private room on their top floor and space on their rooftop deck for scopes. This year we are also teaming up with Foundation Beyond Belief, who are now a “Special Friend” team partner with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) for their Light The Night Walks. They will be the rallying point around which local freethought, atheist, and secular humanist groups will form teams to participate in Light the Night Walks. Go over to their site if you want to get involved. Their goal is to unite the freethought movement around the world to raise one million U.S. dollars for the fight against cancer in 2012. This would make the FBB team the first team in LLS history to bring in $1,000,000 or more in their first year!

In addition to serving a great cause, joining as a part of the FBB international team will highlight non-theist giving globally and raise awareness for local secular groups. To support this goal, the Stiefel family has pledged to match the first $500,000 we raise for LLS – so every dollar we raise for the Star Party will be doubled!
