Art I’ve Made Since November 8th Ranked in Order of Subtlety

How’s everyone feeling today? Good? Ready for the “greatness” to begin? No?

So I’ve made some artwork in reaction to current events, as you do. Look, I really like my apolitical landscape paintings and my monster drawings but politics have taken up a huge part of my brain that I kind of resent.

This painting was originally supposed to be part of the Nasty Women Art Show–one of my friends wanted to get a group together to submit stuff–but well, we missed the submission deadline. I wanted to do an oil painting so I didn’t have to worry about framing it or anything for display, as opposed anything on paper (watercolor, digital, some sort of drawing) but I had a weekend window in which I had to have the thing finished if I wanted to have any chance of it drying enough to ship (not that it ended up mattering, but…). That’s also partly why most of the paint is so thin.

The subject is from a photo I took of monument in a somewhat run-down cemetery in my city. Her expression seemed to fit.

Who’s tired of hearing about “fake news”? I certainly am, especially as I think it’s a misnomer. We’re in a propaganda war.

And on that note…

I thought of this saying back in July around the time of the RNC. At the time I thought I was being extreme, now I just think I’m being accurate.
