Gingerbread TARDIS Cookies

So you probably heard that we’ve been playing with 3D printing at Mad Art Lab. But seriously, can you really do anything practical with this stuff? Well, how about cookies? Cookies are practical, right?

A couple days ago, Maggie sent me a box of stuff she’d printed on Mad Art Bot. One of the things was a cookie cutter.

So today, I looked up a recipe for gingerbread and tried it out.

There’s a TARDIS-shaped hole in the fabric of the universe. Or at least in the fabric of the cookie dough.

Here’s what they look like before baking. The details show up pretty well.

They lose a bit of detail after baking but they’re still pretty decent.

Here’s a close-up of one of the better ones.

How’s that for practical? Awwww, yeah!

  1. SO amazing! I would be tempted to play the TARDIS sound as the cookies disappeared into my mouth…

  2. If you up the amount of flour in the dough it’ll be chewier, but will detail better. One of my housemates does excellent gingerbread for the holidays, I’ll try to get her recipe.

  3. Thanks! That was my first attempt at gingerbread, so I just followed the standard recipe. Once I get the hang of it, I might start making gingerbread structures.

These. Are. Wonderful. They look good enough to eat right off my screen.

I wanna gingerbread TARDIS. Or any TARDIS really.

Hi there, I’m a bit of a baker and happen to know a fun trick for getting gingerbread to retain its shape. After you get the cookies all cut out and on the cookie sheet, pop them back in the fridge for about 5-10 minutes so they get cold. I just made a ton of gingerbread and shortbread cookies for x-mas, but now I may have to make more! :D

Hmm, how can we get hold of the instructions for this? I will be visiting a shop with a MakerBot and would love to print one of these out. Is it on Thingiverse?

  7. Yep, it’s on Thingiverse. Here’s the link: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:14533 I’ll add the link to the post too.
